Rock County Court Dockets

Rock County Court Records, Wisconsin, are available through several channels. RockCourt.us allows you to quickly find public information about court cases in the county. Additionally, records can be searched through the state's court system online tools, directly at the Clerk of Courts office, and on public terminals in the courthouse. Below is a detailed guide on searching, obtaining copies, and paying fees.

Rock Court System & Jurisdictions

In Wisconsin, there are no separate county, magistrate, or district courts in the usual sense for many states. Each county is served by one Circuit Court — a court of general jurisdiction. Rock County Circuit Court handles virtually all categories of cases:

  • Criminal cases — felonies and misdemeanors, including DUI/OWI
  • Civil claims — contract disputes, damage claims, debt collection
  • Small claims — claims up to $10,000
  • Family law — divorce, paternity establishment, custody. For self-filing a divorce, the family law guide on the state court system's website is useful
  • Probate — inheritance cases, adult guardianship
  • Traffic violations — fines for speeding, running red lights, etc.
  • Juvenile cases — cases involving minors (access is restricted)

Appeals from the Circuit Court go to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals (District IV for Rock County), and then to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Appellate court records are available through the WSCCA system.

The Clerk of Courts office maintains all case materials and is the primary contact point for obtaining documents.

Rock Court Calendar & Upcoming Hearings

The schedule of hearings for today, tomorrow, or the current week can be viewed in several ways.

  1. Online case search. On the Case Search page of the Wisconsin Court System, enter the party's name or case number — the results display scheduled hearing dates.
  2. Public terminals in the courthouse. In the lobby of the Rock County Courthouse, there are computers with access to CCAP (Consolidated Court Automation Programs), where each judge's calendar is visible.
  3. Phone inquiry. Call the Clerk of Courts at (608) 743-2200 and provide the case number or participant's last name.

Note: CCAP is updated throughout the business day, so sudden hearing rescheduling may appear with a delay. If you are a party to the case, it is better to confirm the date directly with the clerk's office.

Additional legal resources for the county, including FAQs on small claims and traffic court, are collected on the Rock County Legal Resources page of the State Law Library.

How to Get a Copy of a Rock Court Document

Court document copies come in two types — regular (uncertified) and certified. A certified copy has the clerk's seal and signature and is accepted as official evidence in other institutions. A regular copy is suitable for review.

Channels for obtaining

  • Online. Basic case information — dates, parties, decisions — can be viewed for free through the CCAP case search. Full document texts usually require a request to the clerk.
  • In person. Visit the Clerk of Courts office in Janesville. Bring the case number or full name of the party and date of birth — this will speed up the search.
  • By mail. Send a written request specifying the case number, document type, and a check or money order to the address:
